Why We’re Different

Why Big Mouth Theatre Stands Out

At Big Mouth Theatre, we’re on a mission to change the way children experience drama. While other stage schools all too often focus on competition and performance pressure, we do things differently. Our approach is hands-on, inclusive, and all about personal development, helping kids grow into confident, expressive individuals through the magic of theatre.

Unlike traditional children’s drama programmes, we’ve removed the pressure, the competition, and the rigid structure. Instead, we focus on creating a nurturing, welcoming space where every child can thrive and learn skills, which can help them to lead happy, healthy lives.

Above all, what really sets Big Mouth Theatre apart is our core philosophy: drama should be fun, supportive, and open to everyone. No auditions, no competing for roles, just a space where children feel safe, seen, and inspired.

Our five pillars shape everything we do, from the way we design our sessions to how we support each child’s unique journey:

Confidence – We help the children to believe in themselves and their abilities, trust their teammates, accomplish something new, have a go, and celebrate their wins. We champion the power of these skills to build confidence, resilience, and joy.
Creativity – Using games to explore and develop ideas, designing, innovating, and experimenting with storytelling techniques, exploring characters and their backgrounds, creating imagery and dialogue, and enjoying presenting their work. We champion the power of these skills to spark creativity, imagination, and self-expression.
Connection  – Helping the children to make new friends in and outside of sessions, making others feel welcome, developing ideas together, collaborating, working as a team, leading a team, and helping others. We champion the power of these skills to nurture connection, empathy, and teamwork.
Communication – We help the children to practise active listening, show empathy to others, be open to new ideas, understand and use non-verbal communication and body language, present and speak in public, and support those around them. We champion the power of these skills to build confidence, communication, and empathy.
Celebration – Helping the children to praise effort, recognise their own strengths, appreciate the skills and ideas of those around them, lift each other up with encouragement, and celebrate others with compassion. We champion the power of these skills to inspire kindness, confidence, and mutual respect.
